Mal Fraser (B.Bus. CPA)Partner

Shortly after returning from four years in the Northern Territory in May 1996, Mal Fraser began working for Steve Turner. Prior to this, Mal worked in the Australian Tax Office and Public Accounting in Perth. After working for Steve for four years, Mal joined him in partnership in June 2000.

Mal has maintained a number of client associations that have been with the firm for well over 20 years and prides himself on developing long term trusting relationships. Mal provides services in Taxation, GST, Capital Gains Tax, structure, financing, cash flows and general business knowledge.

Mal has a Bachelor of Business from Edith Cowan University and is a qualified Certified Practicing Accountant and Registered Tax Agent.

Mal is also passionate about the local community and has donated his time to several local committees and boards.

Jane Sparkes (B.Bus. CA)Partner

Born in Busselton and raised on a farm at Vasse, Jane previously worked in the Insolvency Division at Deloitte in Perth for 17 years. Her strong family ties to the Busselton area, saw her return with her husband and three daughters in 2005 when she also joined our team. She became a partner in 2016 when the firm’s original founder, Steve Turner, started winding down to retirement.

With her farming background, Jane has a keen interest in farming succession, estate planning, tax planning and structures. She regularly visits farms all over the South West and in the Central Wheatbelt.

With the commercial skills gained from managing and restructuring businesses under different forms of insolvency, Jane also has extensive experience in advising on business performance and improvement, buying and selling businesses and business valuations.

Jane has a Bachelor of Business, is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a Registered Tax Agent.

Steve Parker (BCom, CA)Senior Manager

Steve is a Chartered Accountant that specialises in Tax and Advisory services. Steve has 10+ years experience under his belt providing tax and business advisory services to a range of business; from small trade services to large corporations and farming operations.

Steve completed his Bachelor of Commerce in November 2010, with a double major in Accounting and Finance, from the University of Auckland in New Zealand. He moved to Australia in early 2011 to begin his professional career as an accountant. He went on to complete his Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting in 2016.

He also plays a key role in managing some of our large business clients and self managed super funds and researching complex taxation issues as well as being a specialist in Xero and MYOB accounting solutions.

Megge BanyardAccountant

Born in Busselton, Megge began her career with STA Accountants in 2005 as a receptionist. After leaving the practice to travel Australia, Megge rejoined the STA team as a bookkeeper upon her return to Busselton. It was during this time she commenced her studies towards a Bachelor of Business with a double major in Accounting and Public Practice. After completing her Bachelor degree in 2012, Megge accepted a role as a graduate tax consultant at Ernst and Young in Perth.

Megge also has extensive experience in management accounting and financial analysis, having worked for large international organisations across multiple industries for 7 years. During this time she has worked closely with stakeholders at many levels, with a passion for adding value and simplifying processes.

In 2020 Megge again returned to Busselton, this time with her Husband and young son, and re-joined the STA team on a part-time basis as a qualified Certified Practicing Accountant.

Hayley NichollsBookkeeper

Hayley began her career with our office as a young receptionist in 2002. Since then she has proved to be a valuable asset in all aspects of bookkeeping. Over time, she has developed her skill and knowledge and earned her advancement to one of our most experienced Bookkeeper. Hayley works closely with the partners on the more complex accounting jobs and also on self managed superannuation funds.

She has extensive Xero experience.

Judi BromleyBookkeeper and Accounts Administration

In 1988, Judi was employed by Steve Turner in Perth. In 2002, Judi continued her professional relationship with Steve when she moved to Dunsborough and soon after re- joined the STA team in Busselton. Over 20 years on, she has remained a loyal member of STA Accountants and gained years of valuable bookkeeping experience.

Judi is now also responsible for the accounts administration of STA Accountants as well as the client manager for some of the firms high-value clients. She has extensive Xero experience and is a Xero payroll specialist.

Lynn Lucas-FrancisBookkeeper

Lynn has been in the accounting industry since 1981 when she returned to Busselton to work in a small accounting office after graduating University. During this time she had left after 5 years to have a family.

She then re-joined the workforce in an insurance office for 2 years, then back to accounting with Harvey & Partners in 2002. Lynn had developed extensive bookkeeping skills with working closely with the practice partner. Since joining us in July 2019, she has become a valuable asset to the business.

Melissa LeeBookkeeper

Melissa joined STA Accountants in 2019 as the Reception Administrator. Prior to that Melissa worked in another local accounting firm for three years and a local general Insurance company for ten years. She has now moved into a bookkeeping support role from January 2021 assisting with individual tax returns, BAS’s and small business tax returns.

Jess MacroneAdministration

Jess is our friendly, bubbly and very capable receptionist. Jess joined us in November 2020 after she decided to turn over a new leaf and start a career in the accounting industry. Currently studying her Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is also building on her accounting knowledge. Her interests include soccer, trivia quiz nights, camping and spending time with family and friends.

Natasha Van Schaik (B.Com)Client Services Administrator

Natasha joined STA Accountants in 2016 and is currently working in the role of Client Service Administrator. The CSA role has been designed as a liaison between the Partners and Clients for the collection of your source documents for the preparation of your tax work. Natasha is also responsible for the firm’s Corporate Secretarial Administration and assists Julie with general administrative duties.

Natasha comes from a legal background and holds a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Legal Studies. Natasha works on a part time basis and although she has only been here for a short time has become a valuable member of the team.

Julie WardFront Office and ATO Liaison

Julie joined our team in September 2011. Julie has over 30 years’ experience as an administration team member in public accounting firms, including 16 years at RSM Bird Cameron Chartered Accountants, Perth. Her most recent of roles was a Partner’s Personal Assistant at a large Perth firm.

Julie made the move to Busselton for family reasons and has become a very valuable asset to STA Accountants. As a client, you are likely to have many personal, friendly dealings with Julie on your visit to our office.
