Our Directors

Mal Fraser (B.Bus. CA)

Partner

Mal brings over 30 years of experience to his role as Director at STA Accountants. After starting his career at the Australian Taxation Office and working in public practice across Perth and the Northern Territory, Mal returned to the South West in 1996 to join Steve Turner. He became a Partner in 2000 and continues to provide calm, practical guidance to clients across a wide range of industries. Mal holds a Bachelor of Business from Edith Cowan University and is a Chartered Accountant and Registered Tax Agent. His expertise includes tax planning, capital gains, GST, business structures, financing and cash flow forecasting. Known for his long-standing client relationships, Mal values trust, clarity and collaboration — and has contributed to numerous local boards and committees throughout the Busselton community.

Jane Sparkes (B.Bus. CA)

Partner

Jane grew up on a farm in Vasse and brings both regional insight and commercial experience to her role as Director at STA Accountants. She began her career with Deloitte in Perth, spending 17 years in the firm’s Insolvency Division before returning home to Busselton in 2005. She joined STA soon after and became a Partner in 2016. Jane specialises in rural business advisory, with a strong focus on succession planning, estate strategy and business performance. She regularly visits farming clients throughout the South West and Central Wheatbelt and is known for her strategic thinking and down-to-earth advice. Jane holds a Bachelor of Business, is a Chartered Accountant and Registered Tax Agent, and currently serves as Director on the Board of Busselton Water.

Steve Parker (BCom, CA)

Partner

Steve is a Chartered Accountant with over 10 years’ experience advising businesses across industries including trade, agriculture and large corporate groups. He joined STA Accountants as a graduate and now plays a lead role in managing key business clients and self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs). Steve specialises in complex tax matters, business advisory and cloud-based accounting systems. He is highly experienced with Xero and MYOB and is known for his clear communication, commercial approach and commitment to helping clients succeed. Outside the office, Steve is a passionate triathlete and Treasurer of the Busselton Triathlon Club.

Our Team

Elizabeth McGovern CA

Senior Accountant

Liz joined STA Accountants in 2022 and brings a strong technical background to the team. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce, a Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting, and a Master of Taxation through Chartered Accountants ANZ. Liz is a Certified Advisor in Xero, Xero Payroll, Figured, MYOB, QuickBooks and Agrimaster. She provides advisory support across tax, cloud systems and reporting, and is known for her thoughtful approach, attention to detail and strong client focus.

Hayley Nicholls

Bookkeeper

Hayley has been part of STA Accountants since 2002, starting as a receptionist and growing into one of the firm’s most experienced and trusted bookkeepers. She works closely with the Directors on SMSFs and complex accounting matters and is valued for her attention to detail and deep understanding of business processes. Hayley is highly skilled in Xero and plays a key role in ensuring client records are accurate, compliant and up to date. Her long-standing commitment to STA is a reflection of her capability, loyalty and strong client relationships.

Judi Bromley

Bookkeeper & Accounts Administration

Judi has worked alongside STA Accountants for over 20 years, with a professional history that dates back to 1988 when she first worked with Steve Turner in Perth. After relocating to Dunsborough, she rejoined the team in Busselton and continues to play a dual role in client bookkeeping and internal accounts administration. Judi manages a portfolio of business clients and oversees the firm’s internal accounts. She is an expert in Xero and Xero Payroll and is known for her calm, methodical approach and long-term relationships with clients and colleagues alike.

Melissa Lee

Bookkeeper

Mel joined STA Accountants in 2019 as a Reception Administrator and moved into a bookkeeping role in 2021. With a background in insurance and local accounting firms, she brings strong administrative and client service skills to her work across tax returns, BAS and small business accounts. Mel continues to grow her expertise in Xero and bookkeeping and is known for her friendly manner, attention to detail and dedication to supporting clients and the wider STA team.

Natasha Van Schaik (B.Com)

Corporate & SMSF Administrator

Tash joined STA Accountants in 2016 and supports both clients and directors across corporate services, SMSFs and general client administration. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Legal Studies) from Curtin University and has a background spanning legal, finance and accounting. Tash assists with corporate compliance, superannuation administration and the setup of businesses and structures. She is known for her precision, reliability and well-rounded understanding of regulatory requirements. Outside of work, she teaches yoga in the local community.

Julie Ward

ATO Liaison & Administration Officer

Julie joined STA Accountants in 2011 after relocating to Busselton from Perth, where she worked for over 30 years in public accounting administration, including 16 years at RSM Bird Cameron. Julie is a familiar face for many clients and plays a vital role in liaising with the ATO, managing documentation and supporting day-to-day operations. She’s known for her warmth, professionalism and decades of experience in delivering exceptional client service.

Belinda Isaacs

Front Office Coordinator

Belinda joined STA Accountants in 2024 as the first point of contact for clients visiting or calling the office. She ensures everyone receives a warm welcome and provides essential support to the broader team, coordinating appointments, correspondence and day-to-day operations. Her approachable manner, attention to detail and strong organisational skills make her a valuable part of the STA team.
